Good Morning! We have very important news for all of our Seniors. We are organizing a way to bring our seniors in to walk the graduation stage in small groups, and within the health department guidelines. What exactly are we planning: On Wednesday, May 20th we are inviting all seniors to report to our HS gymnasium and walk. Each student will be permitted to bring 2 guests Each student should dress in their caps and gowns There will be seating for each graduate’s guests that are socially distanced Each guest needs to wear a mask upon entering the building all the way through exiting, but masks may be removed for pictures of course It is up to the Senior if they would like to wear a mask when they cross the stage. Each senior will be called by name, just as they would if the graduation was taking place as normal. Each senior will walk across the stage, pick up a COVID-19 Diploma (the real ones are not in yet, but will be mailed ASAP) Each senior will receive a flower Each senior will have an opportunity to record a 15 second message to their classmates (appropriate of course) Each senior will then have an opportunity to have a family picture taken at a prepared location outside the gym After the picture all families will be escorted back to their vehicles where they will need to exit the campus to make room for other graduates and guests. 3 IMPORTANT ITEMS TO KEEP IN MIND: School officials are not allowed to shake hands, hug, etc. School officials are not allowed to let families congregate on campus per the health department. The school will be cleaning all areas in the gym after each group of 5 goes through. We are not allowed to bring in the next 5 graduates and guests until the previous 5 leave and the areas are clean per the health department. We are asking for everyone’s cooperation to make sure this is a positive and smooth process for all graduates and families. We need every Senior to complete a survey that will be emailed to your student account at 8:00 this evening. Slots will be filled by a first come, first served basis. Once a slot has 5 graduates sign up, it will close. There will be specific directions on the email. Once again, this is just a creative way to recognize our seniors now. These walks will be recorded and included in the virtual graduation that will be available to view at 7:00 PM on June 5th. We also still plan on doing a traditional graduation as soon as we are allowed to do so. Thank you and stay well! -- Matthew W. Bennett Superintendent Union City Area School District
